The day I was born….
I thought they’d hug me….kiss me…..
And adore me with a crown.
But things didn’t turn out as I thought….
All I could see is that they all fought.
As I saw everyone’s lips curl….
I wondered is it a curse to be born as a girl.
Days passed by….
I saw my brothers…pack their bags….
And getting ready for their school….
When I used to pack their lunch boxes….
Sitting on the kitchen stool….
Why can’t I go to school……I shouted in anger…..
“Girl’s duty is just to cook and clean”…said my grandmother….
My small eyes had big dreams…
But no one was ready to listen to my screams…..
Alone I cried….and cursed my fate…..
Many questions buried inside…….but none have an answer till date…..
Today there’s a tiny bud inside me…….
But I don’t bother whether it is a HE or a SHE…..
I am no one to take away a child’s right….
I will just strive hard to make his or her future bright!!!!!!
As per the recent census report the child sex ratio has dropped to 914 females per 1000 males. Female infanticide is still the biggest curse in our Rural and some parts of urban India. read the article here
Even today there are many households, where girls are not allowed to finish their studies…and they think it’s the girl’s responsibility to just take care of the house. Maybe I am sounding too feminist…but I have also come across families where the girls or daughter-in-laws who are CA’s MBA”s , Doctor’s…but they are not allowed to pursue their profession….because it’s against their family tradition.
I am not against anyone…or any family or culture…. I just believe that a girl or a boy…they should be given equal opportunities to reveal their talent….
Let them decide what they want to do…..
Your views welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think dowry is the main reason behind female infanticide. Sooner the people realizes this the earlier this world would be a better place to live in.
Thoughtful post.:)
